Badass Foster To Adopt Program
The Badass Underdog Program is a limited foster-to-adopt program that gives great dogs extra visibility and a more flexible path to adoption. It allows adopters to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before committing to adoption. Some dogs may need something specific in their new home, but all share one thing: they are wonderful dogs who simply need a second look and the right match.
Foster-To-Adopt FAQ
-
Eligible dogs are great companions who we believe may benefit from a little extra visibility or a customized adoption path. Reasons a dog may be included in the program include:
Longer Time in Rescue: Dogs who have been adoptable longer than expected and are still waiting for the right home.
Specific Home Needs: Dogs who thrive in a particular type of environment, such as a quieter home, an experienced adopter, or another dog in the household.
Medical Considerations: Dogs with manageable medical conditions that require ongoing care or monitoring.
Eligible dogs are identified by a special label on their profiles. Each profile includes a brief explanation of why the dog is part of the program and what they may need in a forever home. Not all dogs are eligible, and inclusion is based on a thoughtful assessment by our team.

The BUP is a foster-to-adopt arrangement designed to give both you and the dog time to get to know each other before finalizing adoption. Participation does not guarantee adoption, but the program provides time and support to help both you and Badass make a confident decision.
Timeline: Foster-to-adopt placements typically last 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the dog’s needs and your home environment. This gives the dog time to settle in and lets you see if it’s a good match.
Application and Matching: Before a foster placement begins, you submit an adoption application for the dog, complete the standard adopter approval process, and discuss with our team whether the dog and your home are likely to be a good fit. This ensures a thoughtful match before the foster period starts.
Foster Support: You’ll be onboarded as a foster through an orientation that reviews care guidance, routines, and program expectations. Our team will be available throughout the placement to answer questions and provide guidance.
Adoption Timing: If everyone agrees the match is right, the adoption can be processed at any time during the foster period, but it must be completed before the end of the agreed-upon timeframe.
If It’s Not a Fit: If the dog is determined not to be the right match, we ask that foster-to-adopt participants continue fostering for at least two additional weeks. This allows us to find an appropriate traditional foster home and ensures as few transitions for the dog as possible. If you wish, we can also discuss the option of continuing to foster the dog full-time instead of adopting.
This approach ensures a smooth transition for the dog and supports your experience as a foster-to-adopt participant, helping create lasting, successful matches.

If you’re ready to meet a Badass Underdog, the next step is to submit an adoption application, noting your interest in the foster-to-adopt program and the specific dog you’re interested in. Our team reviews applications quickly and thoughtfully.
If you have questions before applying, there are several ways to get more information:
Email our adoptions team at applications@badassbk.com.
Attend an adoption event and speak with our team in person. Events are held several times a month, and the schedule is published on our website calendar and social media channels.
Check our dog profiles on the website for detailed information about the dogs currently in the program.
Once your application is reviewed and our team has confirmed that the dog and your home are likely to be a good match, you’ll be onboarded as a foster and guided through the foster-to-adopt process. Our team will provide support throughout, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for both you and the dog.
This is your chance to give a deserving dog a second look while exploring whether they could be the perfect addition to your home.
