Dave Bautista
FOSTER TO ADOPT ELIGIBLE: More information below
AGE / WEIGHT: 3.5 years old / 48 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - Yes, Cats - No
ABOUT ME: Big guy, bigger softie. My whole thing is being near my people, close as physically possible, ideally with a hand on my back and the sun on my face. I'll greet you at the door with a full-body hug and treat every visitor like a long-lost friend. Give me long sniffy walks, a warm deck, and older kids to hang with. Cats aren't my crowd. Everything else? I'm in.
MY FOSTER SAYS: "Don't be fooled by his size — Dave's favorite activity is lying down, preferably as close to you as possible. He is so sweet and just a big marshmallow under that muscle. Wait till you see him get scared of leaves blowing in the wind!"
-
Dave is from Selma, Alabama, where we met him in May 2024. He stayed in a foster home there to complete heartworm treatment before traveling to Brooklyn in mid-July 2025.

Dave is a big, goofy sweetheart who lives for companionship. He greets friends at the door with a full-body hug, decides every visitor is his new favorite person, and turns any gathering into his personal welcome party. Under all that muscle he's a genuine marshmallow, gentle and a little goofy, and happiest when he's pressed right up against his people.
His energy is moderate. He's up for a good long walk, nose to the ground and taking in every smell, then just as ready to bake in a sunny spot on the deck or nap as close to you as he can get. He loves attention from anyone who'll give it, has strong opinions about butt scratches, and would climb into any car with an open door if you let him.
Dave is friendly and outgoing with everyone, though he's still learning to keep all four paws down when he gets excited. He likies kids and is comfortable around them; he'd suit a home with older ones He has lived happily alongside a laid-back senior dog and can share a home with another dog. Cats are not a fit for him.
He's crate trained and house trained, and he walks well on leash, with some ongoing work on focus around street distractions and on settling when he gets over-excited. He'll do best with someone ready to keep up his manners training and a steady daily routine.
Tough-looking on the outside, all softness on the inside, Dave is ready to pick his person and move right in. -
Dave is up-to-date on required vaccinations, is neutered, and has been microchipped. He has been treated for heartworm and subsequently tested negative.
He has received a health check and we believe he is in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding future health or healthcare needs.
Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.

Dave is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.
