Boots

AGE/ESTIMATED WEIGHT: 1.5 years old / 54 lbs

BIO: This Boots was made for walkin'... to the park, that is! If you’re looking for a fun, silly vibe, then I’m your guy. I love playing outside and—no surprises here—going for long walks. And I’d do well with a training-minded adopter: I already sit for treats and know “shake” with both paws!

PERSONALITY: Clumsy, friendly, intelligent

FOSTER TO ADOPT: This dog is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.

  • Meet Boots—and yes, he comes with enough energy to walk (or sprint) right out of them. This young shepherd mix is equal parts brainiac and goofball: clumsy, curious, stubborn, and way too smart for his own good. Think “gifted kid in a dog body” — he’ll ace his training session, then immediately test if the rules still apply when no one’s looking. Spoiler: they do.

Boots is all about action. He thrives on exercise, mental puzzles, and anything that lets him put his big shepherd brain to work. Without it, he’s the canine equivalent of a bored teenager—mouthy, pushy, and inventing his own “games.” With structure, though? He’s a superstar: food-motivated, eager to please, and already rocking tricks like “shake” (with both paws, thank you very much).

With people, Boots is friendly, affectionate, and a little extra—he may jump up in excitement or get mouthy when overstimulated, but he responds well to direction. With dogs, he’s social and playful but needs supervision; he can come on strong and stir the pot if left unchecked, so a confident owner (and maybe a tolerant dog sibling) will set him up for success.

His hobbies include: demolishing bones, learning new tricks, outdoor adventures, and giving squirrels minor heart attacks. Crate and house training? He’s got the foundation but still benefits from consistency. Leash walking? Let’s just say his enthusiasm currently outpaces his manners—but ongoing training is already helping.

Boots isn’t a couch potato-in-training—he’s a high-energy, high-IQ pup looking for an adopter who’ll match his drive, keep him challenged, and laugh at his teenage antics. With the right mix of structure and fun, Boots will grow into the kind of dog you’ll brag about for years.
