Boots
FOSTER TO ADOPT ELIGIBLE: More information below
AGE / WEIGHT: 2.5 years old / 54 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Active
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - Yes, Cats - No
BIO: I'm a shepherd mix with a big brain and bigger opinions. I already know how to shake with both paws, walk like a pro, and ask polite (okay, semi-polite) questions about who's actually in charge. Give me structure, a job to do, and plenty of outdoor adventures, and I'll be the smartest, most devoted partner you've ever trained.
HIS FOSTER SAYS: “Boots is fun and playful. Friendly but not needy. Very curious, happy boy!”

From a large shelter in Dallas; traveled north in early March. Staying with our boarding/training partner outside the city.

Boots arrived with a reputation: smart, enthusiastic, and always angling for his next assignment. His trainers confirm it, his foster confirmed it, and his ability to learn "shake" with both paws before most dogs his age master "sit" pretty much seals the deal.
He's a young shepherd mix with a lot going on: energy, curiosity, and strong opinions about how things should go. None of that makes him difficult in the right hands. He's a highly trainable, food-motivated, deeply responsive dog who is actively looking for a confident person to show him the ropes. Give him that, and you'll find a fast learner and a genuinely sweet dog underneath all the enthusiasm.
Boots does best with structure and leadership, and he'll test you to find out if you've got it. Think pushy teenager: he pushes until he finds the firm boundary, then respects it completely. He can get mouthy when he's overstimulated, so he needs consistent mental and physical outlets, and homes with very young kids should think carefully about whether they can provide that. With other dogs, he's social and playful, doing best with medium-to-large dogs who can match his energy; he can get pushy mid-play and occasionally needs a redirect, but he's genuinely interested in his dog friends. Cats and small animals are not recommended.
On the practical side, Boots is crate trained, house trained, excellent on leash, and fluent in a long list of commands. He loves learning new tricks, loves a good bone, and lives for outdoor adventures.
Boots isn't a project, he's a partnership. Give him the structure, exercise, and training investment he needs, and he'll give you a dog who is genuinely brilliant to have around. -
Boots is up-to-date on required vaccinations, is neutered, has been microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm.
He has received a health check and we believe he is in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding future health or healthcare needs.
Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.

Boots is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.
