GENDER: Female
ENERGY: Low to moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - Yes, Cats - No
BIO: Wandered into this world like a goddess with somewhere better to be — and turns out, that place is Brooklyn. I'm a low-key, affectionate soul who's most at home sprawled on a dog bed surrounded by people who don't mind when I nudge their hand for more pets. You stopped. Why did you stop? I keep my nights quiet, my mornings easy, and my vibe is exactly what you didn't know you were missing.
HER FOSTER SAYS: "Iris is very sweet, well behaved, and easy to have in our home!"

Originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Iris was found wandering the streets, still dragging a heavy chain. Though her former owner was located, they chose not to reclaim her, giving her the chance to start a new chapter. At the shelter, she found comfort in a unique routine: every Sunday, an 11-year-old volunteer visited her kennel to read to her. She is now preparing for her biggest adventure yet: a move to Brooklyn in late March 2026.

Named for the goddess of the rainbow, Iris arrived from the U.S. Virgin Islands with a little mystery and a whole lot of charm — wandering the streets dragging a chain and winning over every person she met along the way. It's giving main character energy.
Iris is a gentle, affectionate, moderate-energy dog who is genuinely easy to live with. She's crate trained, house trained, and sleeps through the night without a sound. She's happy to spend hours lounging on a dog bed, and when she wants attention, she'll politely nudge your hand with her nose — and if you stop petting her, she'll nudge again. She is not above using her paws. She settles quickly and has adapted to city noise and the pace of Brooklyn life without missing a beat.
On leash, she moves well and doesn't pull. She has shown reactivity toward other dogs on leash — she'll fixate and lunge if a dog approaches — and she'll need an adopter who knows how to manage that calmly and consistently. She does best in the company of similarly relaxed dogs in her home environment, and she is not a match for cats.
At the shelter in the USVI, Iris had a routine: every Sunday, an 11-year-old volunteer came to her kennel and read to her. She'd settle right in. She's not asking for a lot — just proximity, patience, and someone who won't stop petting her. -
