BIO: Wandered into this world like a goddess with somewhere better to be — and turns out, that place is Brooklyn. I'm a low-key, affectionate soul who's most at home sprawled on a dog bed surrounded by people who don't mind when I nudge their hand for more pets. (You stopped. Why did you stop?) I keep my nights quiet, my mornings easy, and my vibe is exactly what you didn't know you were missing. Come find out.

HER FOSTER SAYS: "Iris is very sweet, well behaved, and easy to have in our home!"

  • Originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands, Iris was found wandering the streets, still dragging a heavy chain. Though her former owner was located, they chose not to reclaim her, giving her the chance to start a new chapter. At the shelter, she found comfort in a unique routine: every Sunday, an 11-year-old volunteer visited her kennel to read to her. She is now preparing for her biggest adventure yet: a move to Brooklyn in late March 2026.

  • Named for the goddess of the rainbow, Iris arrived from the U.S. Virgin Islands with a little mystery and a whole lot of charm — wandering the streets dragging a chain and winning over every person she met along the way. It's giving main character energy.

Iris is a gentle, affectionate, moderate-energy dog who is genuinely easy to live with. She's crate trained, house trained, and sleeps through the night without a sound. She's happy to spend hours lounging on a dog bed, and when she wants attention, she'll politely nudge your hand with her nose — and if you stop petting her, she'll nudge again. She is not above using her paws. She settles quickly when left alone and has adapted to city noise and the pace of Brooklyn life without missing a beat.

On leash, she moves pretty well and doesn't pull, though she has been reactive toward dogs on leash. She does best in the company of similarly calmer dogs.

Iris hasn't lived with kids, but she's the kind of calm, gentle presence that tends to win people over quickly — including the 11-year-old volunteer who came to read to her every week at the shelter. She's only been in Brooklyn a short time, so all of her training is still settling in, but the foundation is solid. She's looking for a home that can work with her on leash reactivity and give her the calm, affectionate environment she's already shown she thrives in.

  • Iris is up-to-date on required vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. She tested positive for heartworm and still requires treatment. If Iris is adopted prior to treatment, Badass will cover the cost of care. If you think Iris might be a good fit for your home, we can share more details regarding her heartworm treatment plan.

She has received a health check and is currently in overall good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding her future health or medical needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
