BIO: Fetch was the first clue. My foster's daughter played with me for over an hour in the backyard and I was not the one who called it. When I'm not doing that, I'm resting my head on someone's lap, following my people from room to room, and sleeping with my tongue sticking out just a little because I'm missing a few teeth and I've made my peace with it. I just got to Brooklyn, but so far? I'm pretty into it.

HER FOSTER SAYS: "She definitely loves getting attention and puts her head on your lap when she can. And she sleeps with her tongue sticking out just a little bit. It's the cutest thing ever."

  • Gooch was rescued from a shelter in Texas, where she arrived in a state of neglect and in need of some extra TLC. She traveled to Brooklyn in early June 2026.

  • Gooch arrived in Brooklyn from Texas with some miles behind her and made herself right at home. She took about a day to take stock of her new surroundings — a little overwhelmed, a little cautious — and then decided everything was fine.

Since then it's been lap time and fetch, in roughly equal measure. Her foster's daughter played fetch with her for over an hour and Gooch was absolutely not done. Back inside, she trails her foster from room to room and parks her head on whatever lap is available. She sleeps with her tongue sticking out just a little, courtesy of a few missing teeth. It is as good as it sounds.

She came to us from a Texas shelter in rough shape — overweight, in need of dental care, and showing signs of neglect. She's since received the care she needed and is doing well. Her past hasn't made her suspicious of people; if anything, she warms up fast once she decides she's safe, which doesn't take long.

Gooch is crate trained, house trained, and good on leash. She's shown easy, friendly curiosity toward other dogs and lived peacefully alongside cats both in Texas and in Brooklyn. She's lived with teenagers and done well. Younger kids and off-leash dog dynamics are still being assessed as she settles in.

She's been in foster for a short time, so expect all of this to continue to evolve — but the picture so far is a gentle, affectionate, genuinely playful dog who is very ready to be somebody's best friend.

  • The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
