Adoptable Badasses Shine in Glamorous Photoshoot for Pit Bull Awareness Month
To highlight Pit Bull Awareness Month and Adopt a Dog Month this October, Badass Animal Rescue collaborated with the talented Jen Hillenga of @thewaysofthedog to help our adoptable dogs shine in a luxurious setting. Against the elegant backdrop of The Wallace Hotel on the Upper West Side, these regal portraits offer a glimpse into each dog’s unique personality, allowing potential adopters to envision a future with their new companion.
This initiative is part of a broader effort called Homeless Hounds In Hotels, which brings together luxury hotels and rescue organizations to showcase adoptable dogs through captivating professional photography, increasing their chances of finding forever homes. The latest collaboration, featuring The Wallace Hotel and Badass Animal Rescue, captures the charm and personality of rescue dogs, bringing a unique juxtaposition of canine companionship against the luxurious backdrop of one of New York City’s finest hotels. It aims to show that rescue dogs, just like the most cherished guests, deserve love, comfort, and care.
“This photoshoot allows us to spotlight these beautiful dogs and change the narrative around breeds like pit bulls,” says Krista Almqvist, Executive Director of Badass Animal Rescue. “We hope these images inspire people to adopt and offer these dogs the love they deserve.”

Captain Jack Sparrow
The day you will always remember will be the day you meet Captain Jack Sparrow! He may be named after the legendary trickster of the Seven Seas, but this playful boy is all treats. Hailing from the U.S. Virgin Islands and about 2.5 years old, he gets along well with other dogs and cats, making him a great fit for a variety of homes. A true empath, Jack is attentive, intuitive, and friendly. His favorite activities include following his humans around, playing with other pups, asking for belly rubs, and relaxing with a bone or peanut butter. Jack’s foster describes him as eager to greet and play with other dogs, even adding, “Jack Sparrow tried to get in the shower with me, which was cute.”
Much like the rugby star, Illona deserves a gold medal for her friendly and playful spirit alone! At approximately 3 years old, Illona is curious, affectionate, and loyal. She has a heart as big as her smile and quickly turns strangers into friends wherever she goes. Her favorite activities include long walks, learning commands, and meeting other dogs and humans. Ilona would be great in a home with other dogs and children. “Ilona loves every human and wants all the pets at all times,” her foster says. “She’s truly such a love bug and eager for attention. We often get stopped by people wanting to say hi to her because she always looks like she’s smiling.”
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Dwayne has a heart as big as The Rock himself. This affectionate, athletic, and friendly pup was rescued as a stray in Selma, Alabama. A lovable and active 1.5-year-old, Dwayne is the ideal running buddy and would be a wonderful addition to a family with other dogs and children. He’s also highly intelligent and already knows a variety of commands, eagerly anticipating training sessions with his new humans. Dwayne's foster describes him as a sweet boy who is friendly with everyone—a social butterfly through and through.
Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy is ready to rock your world! This affectionate couch potato comes from Selma, Alabama, where he arrived at the shelter covered in fleas and in urgent need of care. Now, having bounced back from his rough start, Ozzy is eager to take the stage and become a fantastic addition to your family. He is about 5.5 years old and gets along with other dogs. When he’s not tossing around his favorite crinkle toys, you can find him snuggling with his humans or cozying up in his dog bed. “Ozzy is so cute, and every day his personality shines through even more,” his foster says. “He does adorable zoomies and is such a sweet goof!”
Maura Tierney
Hold onto your hat—Maura Tierney is a tornado of love and affection! At approximately 7 years old, this friendly hound mix loves nothing more than snuggling up and watching the world go by from the window. She is gentle, playful, goofy, and affectionate, and gets along well with other dogs. “On Maura’s first subway ride, she made fast friends with a kid who let her rest her paws in his lap while he gave her head pats and ear scratches, so she could enjoy the view,” her foster says.
Stephen Nedoroscik
Proudly standing on a podium of his own, Stephen is just as beloved as Pommel Horse Guy! He’s quickly becoming a local celebrity thanks to his friendly nature and knack for making new friends. This pocket-sized pug mix is estimated to be 2 years old and gets along well with other dogs. The perfect companion for leisurely walks and cozy hangouts, Stephen is an all-around charming and empathetic pup. His foster shares: “Stephen loves his walks and greeting people as they pass by. He has made a lot of friends on the elevator!”
