Turk

AGE / WEIGHT: 1 years old / 23 lbs

GENDER: Male

ENERGY: Moderate to active

GOOD WITH: Dogs - TBD, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD

BIO: Just got here, already brought my foster their shoes when it was time to go out — no big deal. I'm the kind of dog who pays attention, stays close, and takes my job seriously (the job being: knowing exactly what's going on at all times). I'm not the type to throw myself at strangers, but give me a minute and I'll let you pet me like we've known each other forever. I've got big Kong energy and an even bigger squirrel obsession.

HIS FOSTER SAYS: "He put his paw on my leg and brought me my shoes when he wanted to go out to potty (or maybe really to go bird and squirrel watching!)"

  • Turk was brought into a Texas shelter as a stray, with no known background. He traveled to Brooklyn in mid-May 2026.

  • Turk showed up with a lot to figure out — new city, new home, new everything — and he handled it like someone who's been quietly observing and filing information away for later. He's a smart and intuitive young dog with a lot of potential.

He's not the dog who throws himself at strangers. Turk is discerning — calm around new people, even a little reserved at first — but he warms up on his own terms and, once he does, he means it. He's already shown a knack for communicating what he needs: his foster reports he placed a paw on their leg and retrieved his own shoes when he was ready to head outside. The guy is perceptive. Don't say you weren't warned.

When he's not monitoring the situation, Turk is gnawing on his blue Kong, playing fetch, or managing squirrel and bird surveillance from the nearest window. He's a moderate-to-active one-year-old with the potential to settle as he matures — but right now he's still got some hustle in him, and he's going to need someone who can match his energy and meet his brain.

That means an adopter who's committed to consistent training and patient with the learning curve. Crate training, house training, and city leash manners are all works in progress, and a new environment will likely mean some regression before things click. He hasn't lived with kids but has been comfortable around them outside the home; his experience with other dogs and cats is still unknown.

For the right person, Turk is going to be an extraordinary dog. He's the kind of companion who notices everything, remembers everyone, and shows up fully for the humans he loves — the ride-or-die type, minus the surgical skills.

  • Turk is up-to-date on required vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm.

He has received a full health check and is currently in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding his future health or medical needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
