Roseau
AGE / WEIGHT: 3 years old / 30 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD
BIO: I took my first steps in the ocean this weekend — a small thing until you remember I spent my whole life on a small island, and now I'm finding out how much bigger the world actually is. Gentle is basically my whole personality so far, though I suspect there's more to me once I've caught up to it all. Give me a treat, a soft spot to land, and time, and I'm yours.
HIS FOSTER SAYS: "He’s a sweetheart!"

Roseau was rescued from Dominica, where he was struck in the head with a cutlass after chasing a chicken, leaving him with a visible scar. He traveled to the Northeast and moved into a Brooklyn foster home in late-June 2026.

Roseau took his first steps in the ocean this past weekend. It's a small thing on paper, but for a dog who spent his whole life on a small island, the world he's discovering now is a much bigger one, and he's taking it in one new experience at a time.
Right now, he reads as gentle, low-key, and eager to please, though that's likely a snapshot of a dog still catching up to everything around him rather than the finished picture. He's shy with new people at first, which makes sense when you consider how much has changed for him so recently, but he warms up, and once he decides he likes you, he'll lean in for contact the second you sit down. There's an old scar on his head from a rough incident back home, but nothing about how he carries himself suggests he's holding onto it.
He hasn't shown much interest in other dogs yet, and his read on cats and kids is still TBD. He's crate trained, has the foundations of house training and leash manners in place, and is already pretty solid on a leash for someone so new to it all. Treats are a fast way to his heart; toys, so far, not so much.
Roseau shares his name with Dominica's capital, a fitting tie for a dog whose world, like the city's, has only just started to open up. It's still very early for him, so think of this as a glimpse rather than the finished story. What's already obvious is that he's sweet and easygoing; the right home for him is one with the patience to let the rest of his world, and his personality, keep expanding. -
The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
