Roseau

Roseau was rescued from Dominica, where he was struck in the head with a cutlass after chasing a chicken, leaving him with a visible scar. He traveled to Brooklyn in late-June 2026.

Roseau took his first steps in the ocean recently. It's a small thing on paper, but for a dog who spent his whole life on one small island, the world he's discovering now is a much bigger one, and he's taking it in one new experience at a time. Right now he reads as gentle, low-key, and eager to please, though that's likely a snapshot of a dog still catching up to everything around him rather than the finished picture.

He's a bit shy with new people and warms up on his own terms: offer him a scratch and he'll happily stay as long as you'll have him, and if he'd rather move on, he's just as content to keep walking. Bit by bit he's opening up, offering more eye contact and settling in a little more each week. He has an endearing donut-shaped greeting spin and a morning stretch routine that his foster swears will make you smile.

He's easygoing around other dogs, happy with a quick hello before he's back to his walk, and unbothered even when a pushy young Lab got in his face. His read on cats and kids isn't known yet, though he's shown no strong urge to chase, so cats could work with the right match. He's crate trained, already steady on leash, and building his house-training routine.

Treats are the fast way to Roseau's heart; toys, so far, hold no appeal. He's a sweet, mellow boy who rewards patience, and there's every sign more of him is still to come as he settles fully.

The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs will be addressed prior to adoption.

A medical history can be sent to applicants and approved adopters.

Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption but can also be sent pre-adoption, upon request.
