BIO: Every king needs time to survey the new kingdom before making his move. I'm not one to rush — I take my time, feel things out, and decide when I'm ready to step forward. Home life is full of things I've never tried before: couches, squeaky toys, air conditioning, the whole deal. So far? I'm into it. Give me a little patience and I'll give you everything.

HIS FOSTER SAYS: "Rex is such a sweet boy. He is clearly going to be an amazing dog for any family. He loves his people, being outside, and all the soft squeaky toys. While he may be a little nervous at first, he is down for any adventure with your confidence showing him the way."

  • Rex was rescued from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he lived alongside his mother before being surrendered by his owner in June 2025. His mom made the trip north a couple months ago, and Rex arrived in early-June 2026.

  • Rex is named after one of New Orleans' most celebrated Carnival krewes — the King of Mardi Gras — and like his namesake, he doesn't rush his grand entrance. He's the kind of dog who takes his time, surveys the room, and lets things unfold on his own terms. It's not aloofness; it's confidence. Give him a little space and a little patience, and he'll make his way to you.

He arrived from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he spent his whole life outdoors alongside his mother, with limited exposure to the world inside a home. Couches, squeaky toys, air conditioning — all of it is new, and he is approaching each discovery with the quiet curiosity of someone who suspects this new life might be pretty good. His foster family confirms it: he's already claimed a dog bed for napping and has strong opinions about which stuffed animals deserve a spot in his crate.

Those stuffed animals, by the way, are serious business. Rex loves squeaky toys with an intensity that borders on professional, and his foster reports he is very deliberate about their placement. He's gentle and goofy with a moderate energy level, equally happy on a long walk or curled up somewhere soft. He's doing well with other dogs, and early leash feedback is promising. He's working on potty training and the beginnings of "sit."

The right home for Rex is one that understands he's still decompressing and will give him the time and consistency he needs to fully come into his own. Patient adopters who enjoy watching a dog discover life's small pleasures will be especially rewarded. He is clearly going to be an amazing dog. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is.

  • Rex is up-to-date on required vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He has been treated for heartworm and subsequently tested negative.

He has received a full health check and is currently in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding his future health or medical needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
