Manicou
AGE / WEIGHT: 2 years old / 27 lbs
GENDER: Female
ENERGY: Moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD
BIO: I don't rush into things. Give me a minute to size you up, and once I've decided you're trustworthy, I'll walk right over to say hello, no further convincing needed. I'm not loud, I don't need a big production, and I'm just as happy curled up at home as out on a walk. My favorite thing in the world is my lamb crinkle toy and a good cuddle once the day's adventures are done.
HER FOSTER SAYS: "She's a friendly pup, very calm and getting more use to our home and being in NYC."
-
Manicou was rescued from the island of Dominica, where she was in the care of a local rescue partner. She traveled to Brooklyn in late-June 2026 and moved into a foster home.
-
Manicou doesn't make a big entrance. New people get a careful once-over before she decides whether they're trustworthy, and there's no rushing the process. But once she's made up her mind about you, she'll walk right over, and the warmth that shows up next is worth the wait.
She's curious and friendly around other dogs she's met on walks, and so far dogs in general seem to be a good match for her. Her experience with cats is still unknown, and she hasn't lived with kids, though she's been comfortable meeting them outside the home.
She's still settling into her new foster home and city life, so all of her training is a work in progress for now. She's already crate trained and making good headway on leash manners and basic cues like "come" and "stop." House training is in the early stages — one accident so far, which is completely normal this soon after arrival. When she's not working on the basics, she's happiest curled up for a cuddle or carrying around her favorite lamb crinkle toy.
She's named for Dominica's native opossum, an animal known for staying unbothered no matter what's happening around it, and it fits, but not because nothing's ever rattled her. It's just her temperament. Manicou would do well with an adopter who has patience for the early stages of training and is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace. The calm is already there. It's only going to keep growing. -
The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
