John Connor

AGE/ESTIMATED WEIGHT: 2 years old / 45 lbs

GENDER: 2 years old / 45 lbs

BIO: After leading the resistance that took down an empire of robotic Terminators, I’d say I’m ready to put up my feet and enjoy the good life with my forever family! I’m a happy-go-lucky, playful pup who just wants to coexist with my people. I’m happy to throw around my favorite toys (like my skeleton with rope arms) while the fam hangs out! I can be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly—and I’m really getting used to the sights and sounds of the big city.

PERSONALITY: Goofy, Entertaining, Eager to please, Friendly, Intelligent

FOSTER TO ADOPT: This dog is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.

  • Meet John Connor — yes, like that John Connor — only instead of saving humanity from the robot uprising, he’s here to save you from a boring, dogless life.

This young, medium-energy guy has mastered the art of balance: lightning-fast and joyfully rowdy when it’s playtime, perfectly content to lounge in his  dog bed or on the floor when it’s downtime. Not a couch-hog, not a nonstop energizer — just the right mix for city living or a home with moderate activity.

John loves other dogs. Like, strongly-recommending-he-live-with-one loves them. He’s a pro at matching energy levels — whether it’s wrestling his bestie Rosita, hanging with a rowdy puppy, or politely coexisting with his foster’s senior dogs. People-wise, he’s friendly and eager to please, though a touch cautious with strangers (especially men) until he warms up. Once he does, you might get a bow, a paw, or a cat-like rub.

He’s house-trained, crate-trained (when he’s with a canine roommate), and very smart — the kind of dog who learns “Paw” and then shows off by alternating paws like a champ. He does have mild separation anxiety but he’s much calmer and more comfortable when he has a dog buddy nearby, making a two-dog household ideal for him.

John Connor isn’t here to lead the resistance — unless we’re talking about resisting your urge to smile when you see his heel-kick-spin move of pure joy. He’s ready to join a home with another dog, plenty of playtime, and people lucky enough to be chosen by him.

  • Originally from Selma, Alabama, John was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter along with another dog. He traveled to Brooklyn in October 2024.

  • “John is super playful and can entertain himself. He had a funny little trot with his toy the other day that made us both laugh. I always giggle how he turns his head constantly when someone has left, or he’s curious about something.”

  • We do our best to ensure the dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
