Gene Parmesan
AGE / WEIGHT: 5.5 years old / 45 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD
ABOUT ME: Birds. Have you seen them? They’re everywhere in this city, and I’m keeping an eye on every single one. Indoors, I’m the easiest roommate you’ll ever meet: I stay off the furniture, I don’t beg, and I’m not much of a barker. I take a little time to get to know new people, so give me a minute. Then let me loose in a yard and watch me run.
MY FOSTER SAYS: "He is really a good boy. Stays off the furniture and doesn’t beg for food."

Gene Parmesan came to us from Selma, Alabama; no information about his history before rescue is available. He traveled to Brooklyn in early October 2026.

Gene Parmesan is on the case. Every bird in Brooklyn is a person of interest, and he keeps a close eye on all of them. Indoors, though, he’s off duty and about as easy as roommates get. He stays off the furniture, doesn’t beg at the table, and his foster has yet to hear him bark.
He’s a gentle, friendly adult with moderate energy and a goofy side that’s just starting to show. He’s still decompressing after his move north, so expect more personality as he settles. He loves a good run in his foster’s fenced yard and zooms loops with pure joy. He’s still getting used to the sights and sounds of city walks, and leash manners are a work in progress.
New people take him a little time. He’s shy at first and doesn’t connect right away, but he warms up. He lives with another dog and mostly ignores it, so a canine sibling could work with the right match but isn’t required. His experience with kids and cats isn’t known yet, and given his strong interest in birds, any cat introduction would need care.
He’s crate trained and house trained. Aside from a little marking when he first arrived, there have been no accidents, though some regression is normal in a new home. He’s starting to learn his name and doesn’t know commands yet, but he isn’t breaking any rules either. His foster is working on helping him settle.
A quiet home and a patient person would suit him perfectly. The birds will just have to live with the attention. -
The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
