Cyrique
AGE / WEIGHT: 3 years old / 25 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Moderate to Active
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD
BIO: Give me a minute. I like to watch before I decide about someone, just to be sure. But earn that trust and everything changes: I'll follow you up and down the stairs, flop down beside you to copy whatever you're doing, and prance around after my favorite ball like the goofball I actually am. Reserved at the trailhead, all in once you arrive. The good stuff is worth the wait.
HIS FOSTER SAYS: "He loves to cuddle with me and get pets."

Cyrique is from the island of Dominica. He traveled to the Northeast in late June 2026 and moved into a Brooklyn foster home. No information about his history prior to that is available.

There's a waterfall on Dominica's wild east coast named Cyrique that you can't just stroll up to. You climb down a cliff to reach it, and the people who make the effort find something spectacular waiting at the bottom. This Cyrique works the same way.
He takes his time with new people. He watches, he weighs, and he decides about you on his own terms, accepting gentle pets when nobody rushes or forces the moment. Give him that space and the reserved first impression falls away fast: underneath is a goofy, clumsy, inquisitive guy with moderate energy who loves nothing more than being close to his person. He'll trail you up and down the stairs, settle in for long cuddle sessions, and once flopped down beside his foster to copy her exact lying-down pose. He adores his balls and chew toys, prancing after them, and is puzzling his way through the concept of fetch.
Cyrique is still settling in, so a few things about him are genuinely unknown: he hasn't been around cats or young kids, and his fit with other dogs is still being sorted out, though early introductions have been curious and friendly. What's clear is the kind of home he needs. A calm, patient household that lets him warm up at his own speed will get the best of him, and probably a devoted shadow for life.
On the practical side, he's crate trained and settles well after a good walk, is doing really well with house training, and is still learning leash manners. He's not especially food-motivated, so training rewards patience over speed. Meet him where he is, and he'll close the distance himself.

The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
