Caribbean Elaenia

Caribbean Elaenia comes from the island of Dominica. She traveled to Brooklyn in late-June 2026.

Give her a room to read before she commits to it, and she’ll show you exactly who she is: gentle and alert, in no rush to give herself away, with a goofy side waiting just underneath. (She’s named for a small, watchful island bird that keeps its crest tucked away until it’s good and ready, which fits.)

She takes a few minutes to size up someone new. She isn't fearful so much as measured, calm and a little aloof until she decides you're safe, which usually happens faster than you'd expect. Once she's there, the goofball comes out: affectionate, wiggly, and a devoted fan of belly rubs. She's had a lot of change and movement recently, so she'll do best with a patient home that lets her land and stay put.

Her energy is moderate, up for a walk and just as happy to relax afterward. Her true happy place is outside with her nose down, sniffing her way along the sidewalk at her own pace. She's friendly and curious with other dogs, more polite greeter than rowdy playmate, and she's showing growing interest in toys as she settles.

She's crate trained and building on the rest. House training has a foundation, though she needs a walk right after meals and gets so excited about leash time that she may leave a tiny piddle on the way out the door. Leash skills are coming along. A steady routine will help all of it click.

The right home is a calm, patient one that lets a watchful girl set her own pace and gives her the stability to settle for good. She warms slowly and then completely.

The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
