Backpack
AGE / WEIGHT: 6 years old / 12 lbs
GENDER: Male
ENERGY: Moderate
GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - TBD, Cats - TBD
ABOUT ME: Window seat? Claimed. Gumby, baby turtle, and my foster sister’s raccoon toy? Also claimed, in the nicest way. I’m small, but my voice is not, and on the sidewalk I’ll tell every dog and bike exactly what I think. Then I calm right down. Indoors I’m a snuggler who lets you wipe my paws without fuss. I just got to Brooklyn, so give me a second to size you up. Champions take their time.
MY FOSTER SAYS: "Backpack is a good boy who is adjusting to NYC. He is excellent inside - he likes to cuddle and play with stuffies!"

Backpack was found tied up outside our rescue partner’s offices in Dallas, Texas, freshly bathed and left with toys and treats. He was taken to a local shelter for medical care and traveled to Brooklyn in late October 2026.

Backpack has a short list of favorite things, and he keeps it close: a Gumby, a baby turtle, his foster sister’s little raccoon, and a good spot by the window. He’s a small adult dog with moderate energy who has only just landed in Brooklyn, so everything here is an early read. So far, he’s a snuggler indoors with plenty of opinions outdoors.
On the sidewalk, Backpack is a small dog with a very large voice. He barks and grumbles at most dogs and bikes he passes. He's mostly loud not necessarily unfriendly, and he calms down quickly and keeps moving. But his adopter should be ready to keep working on calm city walks. He loves the walks themselves.
New people get a careful once-over before he decides about them, so let him come to you. Dogs at home are a different story: he got comfortable with his foster’s dog almost immediately and now snuggles up with her. A dog sibling could work but isn’t required.
Indoors, he’s off to a good start. He slept well in his crate overnight, though daytime crating is less popular, and house training is a work in progress. He also stood patiently for a sponge bath and lets his foster wipe his paws, which is more than many newcomers allow.
The bark is championship-size. Everything else is lapdog. -
The dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
