Celebrating our Badass Legacy of Lucky Selma Legends!

At Badass Animal Rescue, we believe in the power of community and the incredible impact of our adopters. We're thrilled to share the heartwarming stories of our Selma, AL adopters who have opened their hearts and homes to our rescued dogs.

These testimonials not only showcase the love and joy that comes with adopting a Badass legend but also inspire others to join our mission of Badass rescue!

Maryanne & George

“I adopted George (FKA Josh Chan) in December 2020. I had been trying to adopt for months and been pre-approved with Badass but hadn’t matched with a dog yet. Luckily, your organization reached out to me, on Christmas Day, with a picture of George in a Santa outfit asking if I’'d be interested, despite him being younger (10 months) than I was initially looking for. I took one look at that face and never turned back and took him home on December 27!

He is my best buddy and makes me laugh every single day. He's very protective, incredibly smart and wants to be close as often as possible, preferably with his body pushed up against mine, or all 4 paws touching me in some way! I truly believe we were meant to find each other. Ive never known a dog like George, he is one-of-one as my fiancé loves to say. We love this adorable, quirky, toy obsessed boy and we feel so incredibly lucky to have him.”

Lisa & Reggie

“Reggie was our fifth foster with Badass. He was adopted and then returned a few days later. We were already in the adoption process, so we asked if we could keep him, and Badass said yes!

His official gotcha date is New Year's Eve, 2020. We have since moved to Denver, CO where Reggie has plenty of sunny days for his favorite activity, being a baked potato. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Fostering with Badass is a truly rewarding experience. There is nothing like taking in a scared pup straight off the van and watching them open up as they begin to feel safe and comfortable in your home.

Kristine & Betty

“Before adopting Betty, I could’ve never grasped the concept of having a soul mate dog. I adopted her in September of 2018 shortly after I started volunteering for Badass and she was lovingly nicknamed Ugly Betty because of her unique characteristics.

To keep this short, being a dog mom has been one of the most challenging titles I hold, but with it, she has given me courage, she empowers me, and her love is unwavering. When I decided to take a four month roadtrip then move across the country in 2020, she was my co-pilot and a huge source of confidence knowing we were in this together. She is the light of my life and she makes everything better. Thank you Badass!

Lani & Frankie

“I saw one picture of Frankie, cajoled my husband into going to meet her, and immediately fell in love with what we called Frankie's "sad eyes." It took about 10 minutes to decide we were taking her home, and I can't even tell you how much we love her. It's been amazing to see her go from "sad eyes" to our super-sweet, rascally girl. We got through a tough stretch of heartworm treatment, but now we get to explore Prospect Park to our hearts' content and meet all kinds of doggy friends. Frankie is such a loving girl, friendly to all, and we just can't love her enough.

I'm so grateful to Wannabe Rescue and Badass for bringing our girl from Selma to Brooklyn. Frankie had a litter of puppies (we get to see one of them from time to time!), and I wonder sometimes what her life was like before her rescue. When I think of her hardships, I hug her longer and give her more blueberries and tell her how much I love her. She is the bestest, sweetest girl and I'm so happy she's part of our family.”

Caroline & Teddy

“It's been 5 amazing years since we adopted Teddy Francisco, the sweetest and most chill dog ever. He loves snuggles, butt scratches, greenies and falling asleep on his mom's legs. We recently moved to San Diego, and peeing on every seaweed he can find at the dog beach has been his favorite activity.

Teddy was mostly blind when we adopted him, and his blind eye had to be removed in 2022, but he doesn't let that hold him back. Teddy is extremely smart and adaptable, he knows his way around our house really well, he even learned how to use steps to climb to the couch. I have no words to describe how fun and rewarding it is to have this little fluffy ball.

Thank you Badass for rescuing the love of my life and many other dogs, regardless of their age or medical condition!”

Danielle & Murphy

“I got Murphy in October of 2019 and little did I know how much I would rely on my pal over the next few years in the midst of a global pandemic, stuck at home. Murphy was an angel from the minute I got him and I am so grateful we had that time at home together to really get to know each other.

Murphy became my best buddy and my most loyal companion. He gives the best cuddles, is excited EVERY time someone steps into our apartment and is overall the sweetest little pup. He brings joy to everyone he sees on the street and he's the most famous pup on our block in Brooklyn. Murphy became a big brother to my daughter, June, a year ago and they are just two peas in a pod. Murphy loves his sister and his favorite thing to do with her is lick her ENTIRE face and body. June certainly loves it!

Nancy & Holly

“Holly, now 2 1/2 years old, is the best dog ever. Peaceful, devoted, and gentle, she is a perfect family dog for our three children. If she was once a country girl, New York City suits her. We found her at a Badass adoption event in March 2023 and had to make two quick decisions: we were ready for a dog and she was the ONE! Then she hopped into our car like she'd known us all her life. She is snoozing at my feet now. I've noticed she likes to lie down facing the door, putting her body between us and the outside world.

Badass' helped us get started with recs for her food, the right crate, and a good local vet. Holly (a.k.a. Sonic Youth) has been treated up here again for a lingering parasite, so I am now even more thankful for the team in Selma. I know from our Badass records that they rescued her as a 6-month old puppy, a pit bull mix, and sponsored her through this complicated treatment once before. She is such a confident, happy dog, I can tell someone there cared for her with love and security until she came up here. Thank you!”

  • Brianna & Mr. Banjo

“When I saw the image of Mr.B on the Badass site I knew he was the one for me! Since then I have run out of storage four times taking my own photos of this beautiful dog.

The best are when Mr. Banjo got to be the “flower dog” at our wedding. We accidentally timed the music too slow, so the big musical crescendo moment in the song (that was supposed to be my bridal entrance) ended up being Banjo’s big moment to walk down the aisle, to laughs and cheers from my friends and family. He was the star of the show he was always meant to be!”

  • Scott & Raia

“I adopted Raia from Badass on February 29th, 2020--right before Covid! I was a little overwhelmed at first (and sure she was assessing me) but it turned out to be such a gift right before the pandemic. We spent those first few months in Brooklyn together, braving out the pandemic, and fast became best friends.”

  • Molly & Honey

“My Selma Badass is a Heartworm survivor which we got through last summer thanks to so much help and support from the Badass community and staff. We both emerged with a renewed sense of patience!

I was even able to connect with her foster in Selma who revealed to me Honey was almost a foster fail - how lucky am I that she made her way to me and changed my life in every way possible.”

  • Clara & Ginger

“Ginger (formerly Jareth the Goblin King, of the "Bowie" Badass class) is a very special girl. Ten pounds of chi-mix mystery, she was very timid when I met her at an adoption event. But during our first walk, she sweetly gazed back at me and "gingerly" wagged her tail, and I was smitten. On our way home together for the first time, she picked out her own fuzzy bed at the pet store and rolled over in it to solicit belly rubs, in a preview of things to come.

Since then, Ginger has lived the rich and varied life of a Badass alum. In between her customary 20 hours of daily rest, she's chased innumerable rodents, summited mountains, and even sniffed the butts of celebrity dogs in Washington Square Park. A true "people-dog," she quickly turns admirers into friends by plopping down at their feet mid-walk. Now she lives a life of luxury in Seattle, with two work-from-home parents who dote on her all day. She is usually found under several layers of blankets or sprawled out in the sun.ption goes here.”

  • Angela & Pearl

“My husband and I started fostering dogs through Badass during the pandemic, and after a few rewarding but all too short stints of helping dogs transition to life in the city, we decided it was time to find a dog to give a forever home. When we saw Pearl the Crystal Gem's photo on Badass's roster, we were immediately drawn to her big round eyes and smooth blonde coat - she looked like a baby seal on four legs. We thought there was no chance we'd get matched with her given how adorable and in demand she probably was, but hoped that fate might go in our direction. When we got the email with more information about Pearl, we were beyond excited and grateful.

Our first thought when we met up with her foster mom in the park was that she was way smaller than we expected, truly a precious little pearl. She looked nervous but calm and fit into our family right away.

In the four years since that day, we've gone on many adventures together and take her with us everywhere! She's dug holes in the sand in Montauk, climbed mountains in Mammoth Lakes, CA and gone jet skiing in a reservoir in Colorado! We've developed a love of dog agility together and take classes every week with the hopes of competing one day. This spring, she became a big sister to our baby girl Isla, and she's gracefully eased into her self-appointed role as Isla's protector (big barks for any new people who go near the baby) and primary foot licker. We are so grateful to the rescue in Selma and Badass for doing the lifesaving work that brought Pearl into our family!”

  • Kristin & Rooster

“We adopted Rooster (fka Misty Copeland) in 2018. It was one of the best decisions. Rooster has enriched our lives.

She is an invaluable member of the family. It was clear that the first couple or years of her life were difficult and we are so thankful for Badass for rescuing her. We have watched her blossom into a goofy, loving dog. We moved from Brooklyn with Roo a few years ago and Roo has really settled into her California surroundings. Likes include cuddles, hikes, and getting into mischief with our toddler.”

  • Rene & Billie Mae

“I was actually at this particular adoption event because I was fostering a Badass dog, and Bille Mae had just gotten off transport from Alabama. It was a little chaotic because it was so cold that day and we were all huddled inside. Billie Mae was clearly shocked but really just wanted to play with all the other dogs, no interest in all these people. I really noticed her beautiful markings and very unique eyes, she was just so cute, and of course I couldn't stop thinking about her. So a few weeks later after the dust had settled from our foster, I reached out to see if Billie was still available and she was! 2 1/2 years later we are so happy, Billie has grown in to such a wonderful dog, she is a great sister and continues to surprise us each day.

  • Rachel & Simon

“I adopted Simon (fka Simon "Sport" Rocque) in April 2021, and my life has been immeasurably better ever since. I will never forget "meeting" Simon on a Zoom meet and greet - he won me over with his sweet face and his lazy demeanor. I met Simon in person for the first time on the day that I took him home - I went to his fosters' apartment, sat down on the living room floor, and Simon sat in my lap and promptly fell asleep, drooling on my pants. I knew at that point that we were connected forever.

Three years later, Simon is still the happiest, laziest, most loving and empathetic boy. He even volunteers as a therapy dog at a local hospital, where the patients (adults and children) are awed by how calm and gentle he is. Simon makes friends everywhere he goes, and he shows love to everyone he meets. He is truly a special soul.”

  • Jamie & Wannabe

“I brought Wannabe home in December 2021 and it's one of the best decisions I've made! Ever since we first locked eyes at one of Badass's adoption events, I knew she was the dog for me. This loving and goofy girl has brought so much joy to myself and others.”
