Sally Rooney

Originally from Selma, AL, she showed up as a stray at the home of a local vet tech, who took her in and fostered her until she traveled to Brooklyn in late 2024.

Meet Sally Rooney, a dog with main-character energy and opinions to match. Much like her namesake, Sally is observant, emotionally intelligent, a little stubborn, and deeply invested in the people she loves. She’s the kind of girl who notices your face from across the street and thinks, Yes, you look like someone who might adore me—and she’s usually right.

Sally is friendly, outgoing, and genuinely delighted by humans of all kinds. Friends, family, polite strangers who say “hi,” kids she’s known before—she’s into all of it. Expect enthusiastic greetings, happy hops, and the occasional attempt at a kiss if you seem receptive. She’s lived successfully with children as young as six and has shown herself to be gentle, sweet, and affectionate.

She’s got a goofy, clumsy streak (watch your coffee table—her tail has zero spatial awareness) and an alert, curious side that keeps her tuned in to her environment. Sally loves training sessions and thrives when her brain is engaged. She’s smart, eager, and visibly proud of herself when she figures something out. Nature walks are her happy place, followed by a pupsicle or a long nap in the sun.

Sally is still working on leash reactivity with other dogs and small animals, especially in the city. The good news: she’s improving, her “reaction bubble” is shrinking, and she does great with dog friends she knows—playful, tireless, and joyful. She’s crate trained, house trained, and genuinely loves her cozy crate (especially with a soft blanket).

Sally is up-to-date on required vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She tested positive for heartworm and has completed treatment.

She has received a health check and we believe she is in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding future health or healthcare needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.

Sally is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.
