Honey Bee

AGE/ESTIMATED WEIGHT: 5 years old / 57 lbs

BIO: Just like a honey bee, I’m sweet as can be! I’m a silly, sometimes-shy boy who would do best with a training-minded adopter in a home outside the city, as the sights and sounds make me a bit nervous. Now that that’s out of the way, can we talk about how much I love to snuggle? Don’t be surprised if I totally ignore my size and try to climb into your lap! When I’m not being your shadow, I also love to play fetch and learn new commands.

PERSONALITY: Goofy, clumsy, attached

FOSTER TO ADOPT: This dog is eligible for our limited foster-to-adopt program, which gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home and get to know them before finalizing an adoption. The foster-to-adopt period typically lasts 2–4 weeks and follows our standard foster guidelines. Interested adopters should submit an adoption application noting their interest in the program and the specific dog—they can connect with the adoptions team for more details.

  • Honey Bee is a sweet, shy boy who is looking for a family that can help him build his confidence and come out of his shell! We met him during a rescue trip to GA last fall. He stayed with a foster there for a while to decompress and traveled north in late June. His Brooklyn foster reports that he’s very sweet and silly in the home and can be a real cuddle bug. But he’s very timid and afraid outside - the sights and sounds of NYC can be intimidating for a lot of dogs but are particularly scary for a nervous pup who is new to the city. He is living with other dogs (small and large) and doing well with them. The other dogs do occasionally let him know to respect their boundaries and he responds well to this communication. We have not seen him with cats. Training is going pretty well so far - he is crate trained and loves his crate. He has a good house training foundation. While he still has accidents, he’s improving. His leash walking skills need work. He’s improving slowly but, because he is so nervous and easily spooked outside, he tends to pull and will try to bolt when he’s surprised. Honey Bee will need a patient adopter who is prepared to provide support and training to help him overcome his nervousness and navigate new situations and triggers.

  • “Honey went on a trip for his first pup ice cream! He loves riding in the car and was so stoked when he got to have ice cream too!”

  • We do our best to ensure the dogs in our care are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered (when old enough), microchipped, and given a general health check. Immediate medical needs and medical history will be addressed with the adopter prior to adoption. Complete vet records will be sent shortly after adoption.
