A.J.

AGE / WEIGHT: 1 year old / 22 lbs

GENDER: Male

ENERGY: Moderate

GOOD WITH: Dogs - Yes, Kids - Yes, Cats - TBD

BIO: Yeah, I’m A.J.—but don’t worry, I’m the good kind of Soprano: soft, snuggly, and only dramatic when I don’t get enough belly rubs. I’ve mastered foster life like I’ve been studying the role for years, and once I trust you, I’m loyal for life. I love walks, zoomies, cuddles, and hanging with other dogs, and I’m learning the whole “leash etiquette” thing one treat at a time. If you’re looking for a sweet, sensitive guy with main-character energy, I’m ready to make my big debut.

FOSTER: “I love AJ so much! He flies at high speed over my couch and lands perfectly.”

  • Originally from Georgia, AJ was brought into rescue with his brother. He traveled north in mid-October and has been in foster outside the city.

  • Meet AJ—which we’re pretty sure stands for “Always Joined-at-your-side”, because this little guy’s favorite place in the world is anywhere you are. He’s a sweetheart with a moderate energy level: equal parts couch companion, cuddle connoisseur, and sudden burst-of-speed sprinter. One minute he’s snoozing like a tiny prince, and the next he’s zooming so fast the laws of physics file a complaint.

AJ’s personality is a charming blend of entertaining, gentle, and deeply eager to please. He’s intelligent, loyal, and a little cautious with new people—more “observe first, commit later.” If held, he’s fine accepting pets from strangers; on leash, he can be more nervous, especially with men, though he’s warming up steadily. He’s living with kids now and doing wonderfully—respectful and friendly without being overwhelming.

With dogs, AJ is a total delight. He’s fostered in a home with a pack of all sizes and ages and fits in beautifully. At camp he’s been great with every dog he’s met, playful and curious without being a chaos agent. Cats remain TBD.

Training-wise, AJ has a solid foundation. In his crate he may spin circles at first, but he settles. He’s house-trained with only minor “hey other dogs marked here once” moments. On leash, he generally does well; if startled, he may panic briefly, nibble the leash for a second, then reset with support from his person. He knows sit, come, his name, and—bonus—has impressive recall. He sticks right by his humans during open-area time.

He’s also a champion cuddler, a Benebone enthusiast, and a dog who treats grooming like a non-event—even the blow dryer doesn’t rattle him.

Surrendered from a home with too many dogs, AJ is still discovering the world. But he’s blossoming beautifully, gaining confidence every day. And honestly? Whoever adopts AJ should feel incredibly lucky—because this little guy gives his whole heart to his people.

  • AJ is up-to-date on required vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm.

He has received a health check and we believe he is in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding future health or healthcare needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
